About Central

Central is a Pickens County town of 5,247 residents (2020 census). It was founded by the Atlanta and Richmond Air Line Railway during an 1873 railroad boom and named for its midway point between Atlanta and Charlotte. Southern Wesleyan University, founded in 1906, has its main campus east of downtown.
