Garden City, also called Garden City Beach, is a beach community on U.S. 17 Business in southern Horry County, about 10 miles from Myrtle Beach and 25 miles from Georgetown. It had 10,235 residents at the 2020 Census. Hurricane Hazel hit on October 14, 1954 and left only two houses habitable, and Hurricane Hugo destroyed 43 percent of the beachfront structures in September 1989 and took out the Kingfisher Pier. The Pier at Garden City, about 668 feet long, reopened in July 1992.
Garden City has a mix of retirees and year-round residents, and many get care in Myrtle Beach or Murrells Inlet. The Coast RTA bus system serves the area. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are approved county by county, so check that your doctors and hospital are in network. Abilla Advisors can compare Horry County options against your doctors and prescriptions at no cost to you. Call 843-284-6815.
