About Laurens

Laurens is the county seat of Laurens County, with 9,335 residents in the 2020 census. It was established in 1785, named for Henry Laurens, a South Carolina merchant and president of the Continental Congress, and was first called Laurensville. Future president Andrew Johnson worked as a tailor in downtown Laurens from 1824 to 1826.
