McClellanville is a small fishing village in northeastern Charleston County, on Jeremy Creek and surrounded by the Francis Marion National Forest, with Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge nearby. Santee Delta planters built summer homes here in the late 1860s to escape summer fevers, and fishing, shrimping and oystering became the village's livelihood. Hurricane Hugo passed directly over the village in 1989, tossing shrimp boats into yards. The town had 605 residents at the 2020 Census.
Shrimp, oysters and seafood are the village's livelihood, with shrimp boats still working Jeremy Creek.
McClellanville is about 38 miles from Charleston and 23 miles from Georgetown, so hospital care means a real drive. When you compare plans, check whether the hospitals you would use in Charleston or Georgetown are in network, and keep in mind that a hurricane can force evacuations. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are approved county by county, and Abilla Advisors can compare Charleston County options against your doctors and prescriptions at no cost to you.
