North Myrtle Beach sits at the northern end of the Grand Strand, close to the North Carolina line. The city was created in 1968 by combining four beach towns: Cherry Grove Beach, Crescent Beach, Ocean Drive Beach and Windy Hill Beach. The community dates to 1735, and William Gause received a 250-acre grant near Windy Hill Beach in 1737, where he farmed and ran a tavern on the Kings Highway. The 2020 Census counted 18,790 residents, with a median age of 62.5, and the town of Atlantic Beach is surrounded on three sides by the city.
With a median age over 62, North Myrtle Beach has one of the oldest populations on the Grand Strand, including many retirees from other states and part-year residents. Because the city is close to North Carolina, some residents see doctors across the state line. A Medicare Supplement works with any provider that accepts Medicare nationwide, while Medicare Advantage plans use local networks approved county by county. Abilla Advisors can compare Horry County plans against your doctors and prescriptions at no cost to you. Call 843-284-6815.
