Okatie is an unincorporated suburban community west of Hilton Head Island, named for the nearby Okatee River, an estuary of Port Royal Sound. It stretches from south-central Jasper County into western Beaufort County, bounded roughly by Interstate 95 and SC 462, with SC Highway 170 (Okatie Highway) as the main route. Since the 1990s the area has filled in with low-density neighborhoods, including Sun City Hilton Head, Riverbend and Oldfield, and parts of it have been annexed by Bluffton, Hardeeville and Port Royal. It is the home of the Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority headquarters, the Beaufort-Jasper Academy for Career Excellence and John Paul II Catholic High School.
Okatie crosses the Beaufort-Jasper county line, and that matters for Medicare: Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are approved county by county, so the plans open to you depend on which county your address is in. Many residents here, including those in Sun City, moved from out of state, and a change of address can open a special enrollment period. Abilla Advisors can confirm your county, then compare the plans offered there against your doctors and prescriptions at no cost to you. Call 843-284-6815.
