Ridgeland is the county seat of Jasper County. It began in 1894 as a railroad stop called Gopher Hill, after the gopher tortoise, and was renamed Ridgeland in 1902 for the sandy ridge it sits on. The town had 3,758 residents at the 2020 Census, with a median age of 36.4. Interstate 95 runs through it with exits 21 and 22, and U.S. 17 and SC 336 (Main Street) carry local traffic. Savannah is about 31 miles south, and Hardeeville is 14 miles away.
Most people here treat I-95 as the lifeline to Savannah, Beaufort and Hilton Head for shopping, work and specialist care. It is worth knowing that before you pick a plan, because the doctors you use may not all be in Jasper County.
Ridgeland is a small town, and many residents travel to hospitals in Beaufort County, Hardeeville or Savannah for care. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are approved county by county, and networks differ from plan to plan, so check each doctor and hospital you use. A Medicare Supplement works with any provider who accepts Medicare nationwide, which matters if you cross the state line for care. Abilla Advisors can compare Jasper County options against your doctors and prescriptions at no cost to you. Call 843-284-6815.
