Dental coverage is one of the most popular supplemental benefits offered by Medicare Advantage plans. Original Medicare (Parts A and B) does not cover routine dental care — no cleanings, no fillings, no crowns, no dentures.

Preventive dental typically includes 2 cleanings per year, annual X-rays, and oral exams at no or low cost. Comprehensive dental goes further, covering fillings, extractions, root canals, crowns, and sometimes dentures up to an annual maximum (commonly $1,000–$2,000/year).

About 80% of Medicare Advantage plans in North Carolina and South Carolina include some form of dental benefit. When comparing plans, ask specifically whether they offer comprehensive coverage or preventive only.
